We did it then and I saw the READ Act come to USAID in Zambia. Let’s do it again! These are three powerful bills. We must see them come to fruition. 💪
David Plasterer
33:57
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK, which we plan to build upon in the coming months, as we bring in more advocates to join us in our fight for ending poverty. Your advocacy already made a difference, even in this budget reconciliation bill that does not include our main priorities, because there are provisions in the bill that we consider as incremental steps towards achieving our goals, among them is more funding for the federal agency that implements and enforces the tax code, including the Child Tax Credit. We need more advocates to join us to keep pushing Congress for our priorities, particularly at a time of high inflation, skyrocketing rent prices, and higher costs of living. We will get into more details of what's ahead at the August policy forum, so please stay tuned.

Myrdin Thompson came to my Circles meeting and she was on Fire for RESULTS, and I knew then that I wanted to be connected, not knowing how much of an impact RESULTS would have on my life, especially having firsthand experience growing up with not many privileges here in the US.

If you do not know how to write a letter to the editor, write to a Member of Congress or call, meet in person on issues RESULTS has the specific information we can make reference to. I had been active. They coach and provided information to invite and meet our Officials. Working with Aides is aso very helpful.

54:12
Here's my story about being discouraged about unsuccessful outreach and needing a change in perspective and a lot of persistence to draw more people in. It was written in 2014! Thanks to RESULTS, I hung in there. “Outreach: Failure and Persistence OR "OMG, What If No One Shows Up?” https://endpoverty-ccyl.blogspot.com/2014/02/outreach-failure-and-persistence-or-omg.html
Karyne Bury (she/her), RESULTS
54:17

I had a relationship with someone who was very by. They did not have the time to be on a call, but I sent the summary. so action was taken.
Lisa Marchal
01:02:55
Don't hesitate to share other outreach ideas you have here in the chat!
Karyne Bury (she/her), RESULTS
01:06:08
All great ideas shared here, I know that some advocates plan on engaging with Colleges and Universities this fall, specifically students in the areas of global health and social work. Great way to find new advocates who are interested in the issues we work on!
Sarah Leone, RESULTS, She/Her
01:06:52
^ Karyne that's a great idea! Can confirm it works, I was a social work major in college when I got recruited by RESULTS. ;)
Meg Gardinier - Global Education Policy (she/her)
01:06:57
@Karyne, we'd love to have global education included in that outreach too!!!
Leslye Heilig
01:07:17
Birddogging can be fun and gets results

01:07:18
What is an action network list? How does it differ from action messages that we get from DC?
Meg Gardinier - Global Education Policy (she/her)
01:07:23
What about faith communities? Is this a possible venue for outreach too?
Karyne Bury (she/her), RESULTS
01:07:26
Yes absolutely Meg! Students in global education also!
Meg Gardinier - Global Education Policy (she/her)
01:07:52

01:08:20
An Action Network is a local network of online individuals who take action twice a month. They do not have enough time to a full on volunteer, but they still want to stay involved.
Karyne Bury (she/her), RESULTS
01:08:31
Looking forward to the bird-dogging training this Tuesday! Great opportunity to practice the skills to engage with candidates and community
Lisa Marchal
01:08:35
Meg, faith communities are often connected with vibrant advocacy arms (Washington offices) that help them tune in to advocacy/policy change opportunities relevant to their tradition. RESULTS can augment and underscore that beautifully.
David Plasterer
01:08:35
Attending protests for related issues puts you in front of a lot of very politically motivated people who shouldn't be too hard to engage spur to action.
Lisa Marchal
01:08:54
Keep the ideas coming!
Beth Wilson, Olalla, WA (she/her)

Leslie Weinberg
01:10:14
I have Twitter followers. What can I send to let them know?
Ana Castillo-Nye
01:10:25
If you are a member of a professional networking or resource group -- like I'm in one for healthcare workers-- it might be really effective to reach out to those folks, especially if they have a vested interested in the bills we advocate for
Meg Gardinier - Global Education Policy (she/her)
01:10:39
What's the best way to share contact information these days? digitally, with paper, social media?

Pat, Action Sheets are located in our Volunteer Hub. They are two-pagers that help you organize a great Education and Action meeting. The front is background. The next page is support for an action you can take. We also have a sample meeting outline you can adapt. Let us know if you can't find the Action Sheets archive online - we have a new Action Sheet almost every month.
Karyne Bury (she/her), RESULTS
01:12:37
@Pat - Action Sheets are posted on a monthly basis and guide advocates to actions they can take for the month. Here is the link to find more - https://results.org/volunteers/monthly-actions/
