Thank you both so much for sharing your stories here, and with members of Congress! I want to ask you — have you ever had someone who has received your story tell you that you should have done something differently, and if so, how did you deal with that?
Lila Bartel
01:16:00

Maxine Thomas
01:23:48
I have really enjoyed both sessions. I haven’t been in a position to chime in like I want to. I’m so inspired by both of y’all and your powerful stories. leading us to a great way to amplify our voices
Karyne Bury
01:24:34
I feel like everyone has a story, a personal story, that draws them to become activists in eradicating poverty, but doesn’t necessarily feel that it’s “good enough” or “fits a narrative”, what type of questions do you ask yourself to assess this?
Karyne Bury
01:25:23
I don’t want us to fall into a trap of competing tragedies, it’s not the right place to operate from - how do we tap into each of our personal, authentic stories?
Delores Lyons
01:26:50
Congratulations Maureen!
Karyne Bury
01:27:46
Thank you Maureen! This highlights a beautiful point. Congratulations on graduating!

01:29:26

anthealai
01:29:28
Thanks for the inspiring stories, Maureen and Pamela!
Dr. Josiane Apollon
01:30:38
Excellent talk on storytelling! Thank you Pamela and Maureen!
Jaki White
01:31:33
I really appreciate the information you are sharing- I have a question - what do you think the best plan is if you don’t have a compelling story in your group that aligns well with the policy you are advocating for?
Delores Lyons
01:31:35
I have found that the "coldness," may be their way of disconnecting. If they connect, they might feel, and if they feel, that may very well cause them to see something that changes their position.
Chuck Sutherland
01:31:40
This is Marilyn Sutherland. How do you suggest people who have not had the experiences tell a story that will impact others?
Sarah Borgstede
01:32:15
Very well said, Maureen. I really appreciate your words on not to focus on a reaction, but to remember your goal, and that we aren’t alone. Thank you! And Thank you Pamela!
Jim Driggers CA USA
01:32:41
Thank you both. You've shared your wisdom and stories well!

Right, Maureen.
Darryl
01:37:02
I haven't been able to get the survey to open yet. Is anyone else having any trouble?
Delores Lyons
01:37:36
I just finished the survey...
Karyne Bury
01:38:05
Yes that answers my question - I think the first step is for each of us in our group to assess our personal stories and how it connects to the purpose of what we are advocating for.
Karyne Bury
01:38:09
Thank you!
Bernadine Williams
01:38:19
Exactly right Pamela.
Darryl
01:38:51
False alarm - survey finished, Thanks!
Bernadine Williams
01:39:09
Borrow stories from the newspaper headlines.
Karyne Bury
01:39:21
Is that ok if those are not our stories?
Bernadine Williams
01:39:52
Don't misrepresent them as your own.
Delores Lyons
01:40:01
Excellent answer Maureen. That's what our group does.
Dr. Josiane Apollon
01:40:04
Everyone has a story.
Meredith Dodson
01:40:25
Some advice from previous convo in the chat on this: From Kali Daugherty : Stories are very impactful when it is something that you have had personal experience with and can talk about from your knowledge. It doesn't have to be lived experience on your end though it can be real stories from those impacted by the measures you are advocating for.
From Lindsay K. Saunders
15:01:25
@Ricci, you'll have to illustrate human stories of individuals local to where you are, to make it relevant to UK MP's.
Crickett N
01:40:30
Agree with Maureen! Especially on the Global issues that definitely happens - but it is about why we care so much!
Meredith Dodson
01:41:01
another idea: your "nugget of truth" can be you describing why you care about this, why having access to vaccines or other health services, access to nutritious food, access to safe and stable housing, matters to you -- the difference these sorts of measures have made for you/your family.
From Yara Changyit-Levin
15:02:22
Ricci, sometimes I tell the stories of people I meet at the RESULTS conference with their permission (TB survivors, AIDS survivors, etC) and begin by saying something like “Carol couldn’t be here with us because she lives in Kenya, but she would want you to know how your actions in Congress affected her life…”-- my mom's advice
Dr. Josiane Apollon
01:41:04
Excellent!!! Thank you so much!
Bernadine Williams
01:41:08
Doesn't everyone take constituent letters and media pieces?
