Important to remember we are advocating for the policy, not the legislative vehicle, if they say they won’t vote for partisan reasons, redirect back to the specific policy and ask for their thoughts on that.

We have heard that from a lot of republicans on the CTC Connie. Great comment and question!

I would probably try a shortened version of something like this: “You voted to increase the CTC in 2017, so I’m really grateful for support of that. When the CTC was expanded in 2020 to include monthly payments it benefited almost 1 million children in KY. Would you mind sharing what you think about potentially making payments like that permanent?”

Converting the current Child Tax Credit to a child allowance—by making it fully refundable, increasing its value to $3,600 per child age 0-5, $3,000 per child age 6-17, and distributing it monthly—would cost about $100 billion and would generate about $800 billion in benefits to society.
