Lester Wyborny

I will say again, I would like to start a movement to change the name child tax credit to child tax investment to increase its verbal impact.
Yolanda Gordon
28:14
It is an investment Lester.

Has the increase in child poverty at the beginning of 2022 remained in place during the last few months?
Joel Rubinstein & Sylvia Sabel
33:19
turn off the gworp!
Misty Novitch
33:25
Well said Meredith
Susan Beckett
34:17
Why would the CTC only decrease child poverty by only 19% when it jumped 41% when the CTC was discontinued?
Lisa Marchal
34:30
Oscar, we assume so, says Jos. He says it jumped back up in Jan and Feb and nothing has changed since then. Have not yet seen new data beyond that.
Alicia Stromberg
35:12
`thank you for the overview, Meredith!
David Plasterer

Higher prices in stores and at the pump make it necessary for lower income people to have this refundable credit.
Liz Clerkin
36:19
Our local community services org. saw a 1/3 increase in families requesting food assistance after Jan 1.
Roger Hudson
37:37
Expired Rescue Act gave CTC benefits pretty far up income scale. Narrower or more targeted version under discussion ?
Meredith Dodson, RESULTS (she/her)
37:38
Hi all! Just catching up with this -- the Columbia University data shows that when the full (refundable and bigger monthly) 2021 CTC expired, child poverty jumped by 41%. The 19% reduction in poverty is the impact just of making the CTC fully refundable -- what ensures families with no- or low-incomes get the full CTC (but at "back to normal" amount)
Lynne Patalano
37:43
As a teacher I saw dozens of families with GRANDPARENTS as heads of household, who were retired and didn’t have much income, but struggled to cover costs of raising their grandkids… I believe the full-refundability aspect of CTC helped those folks, am I right?
Roxanne Allen
39:06
Covid funding action in both houses?
Meredith Dodson, RESULTS (she/her)
39:35
To Oscar's question, while Columbia has not released monthly child poverty rates past January that I've seen, the good news is that families got the rest of their expanded CTC (remember, monthly payments just July-Dec) AND the EITC this spring -- child poverty is typically lowest this time of year. But then expected to go up, and we are seeing increases of families with children reporting increased hardship in the Census Household Pulse data
Leslie Weinberg
39:50
Stamford is part of Fairfield County. In Connecticut, we have the highest level of Incomparability of income levels. Years ago I worked with a Head Start 17 years. The parents each worked 2 jobs or more,. There were no benefits, so probably the children only got the Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks. Hungry children do not learn. Leslie Weinberg4
Oscar Lanzi
40:23
thank you Meredith.
Meredith Dodson, RESULTS (she/her)
40:57
@Roger -- the CTC for higher-income families is definitely under conversation, along with the size of the 2021 increase. We in particular can make sure that families with no- or low-income families get the full (whatever it is) CTC -- making sure they are THE top priority in order to reduce child poverty.
Meredith Dodson, RESULTS (she/her)
42:23
And for @Lynne: yes, grandparents raising grandchildren can get the CTC -- honestly, there were some great changes to make that easier for those families in a longer-term extension of the CTC that would have kicked in next year. But those are on hold... for now
