what is meant by "Micro-Volunteering"?

Since relationship building is a long term effort, should we hold off on giving them Congressional focal point roles?

That's a great question Karen! If the volunteer has let you know that they can only volunteer for 3-6 months, it may be best to introduce them to roles that won't affect the group in a negative way when they leave. If a new volunteer wants to learn more about a Point person role, it may be beneficial to team them up with an individual that is staying longer with the group. Almost like a mentorship program.

Micro-volunteering: time commitments are decreasing amongst volunteering because of various life events; unpredictable lifestyles and circumstances, changes, and other life demands

Great comment Karen! During the initial 1:1 meeting you'll set up with each new advocate, it's definitely a question to ask. Something like "Given how busy life can be, do you know how much time you're able to give to RESULTS? Just know whatever time you can give is valued and appreciated, and you are welcome no matter what."

It also brings to mind that there are small wins (exercising advocacy muscles for the first time, creating an opening relationship with a member of Congress, etc.) that not only speak to individual growth and achievement but also, in aggregate, contribute to overall success.
Shaun Curry
52:23
Yep Lisa..And those small wins accumulate into something very large and remarkable. In addition, those small wins are so energizing to hear and possibly be a part of for new volunteers and advocates. We would always highlight these on past political campaigns I have been a part of for new volunteers..Can be so powerful

Tom, additionally your Regional Coordinators can help support you specifically if you feel like you don't know a skill well enough. They're a great resource for you as well.
