Hello friends! Lanie / Denver, CO / they/them/theirs

18:56
Thanks for that, Michael.

19:13
As Michael mentioned, please fill out RESULTS Anti-Oppression and Equity survey: https://bit.ly/3ar0gDt

19:56
for those who don't know, DV = Domestic Violence. Strong correlation, as I've learned directly from RESULTS Experts on Poverty, between domestic violence and housing instability

22:32
Any update to share on the public charge and the funding to immigrant communities who need affordable care act funding and not be afraid of deportation

28:59
Isn't that a breach of contract?

29:16
We know eviction causes homelessness and can place children in to the foster care system

31:12
For Betsy and others interested, in "public charge" and access to programs for immigrant families, goo resource here: https://protectingimmigrantfamilies.org/analysis-research/. and more re resources from the recent COVID Relief (American Rescue Plan) and immigrants: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xMbrP8hH2WQQaHydMzctJ85yu0yVT0ZD/view. but assuming we have time, will ask Michael to talk through how emergency rental assistance and immigrants specifically

33:56
Isn't "no cause" eviction a breach of contract?

37:32
As Michael discussing now, no centralized eviction database. Can see some recent anecdotal data and stories under "COVID-19" by state: https://nlihc.org/housing-needs-by-state

38:19
NLIHC and lawyers fir them have great data across lots of housing coalition partners

39:08
eviction data from 5 states here: https://evictionlab.org/eviction-tracking/

44:26
I had a client who was facing an eviction in December and we followed the moratorium guidelines and the judge decided not to follow it. We never got an answer as to why he didn't follow it unfortunately.

44:57
here is one of the studies looking at evictions and COVID transmission (some of you might have seen this -- shared it earlier this year in the RESULTS weekly update): https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11524-020-00502-1

45:33
and here is the official CDC eviction moratorium declaration: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-eviction-declaration.html

46:40
I’d love to see that. Thanks

We can contact your mayor and have them share the CDC eviction guidelines

50:22
Do we know how individuals should apply for those rescue funds?

51:13

here is a link to find your state's COVID policy scorecard from EvictionLab: https://evictionlab.org/covid-policy-scorecard/

59:17
Michael I really appreciate your legal background on the issue, this was so greatly helpful to deep dive into

59:22
Are criteria for receipt of financial rental assistance set by Feds, or locally determined.? Do you have to prove your loss of income is directly COVID related?

How many states have right to counsel for housing court/evictions?

01:02:44
Only a handful - you can find out more about the advocacy work on right to counsel in eviction courts: http://civilrighttocounsel.org/

01:03:02
Thank you!

01:05:08
Is there eligibility for landlords to get compensated for unpaid back rent even if tenant is gone?

01:12:11
I thought from what I learned from Columbus City Council program discussion, that the landlord gets the funds directly if they will accept it. If not, it goes to the renter to hold in escrow for back rent.

01:12:24
Thanks for all the information

01:13:19
yep, that was what I was trying to say -- as long as landlords participate, emergency rental assistance $$ for back rent goes right to them

01:13:42
Thanks Michael, very beneficial information.

01:13:45
Thanks, Michael and Meredith. I'm gong Global!

01:14:11
Hear hear!!

01:14:18
Yes, thank you so much!

01:14:26
Thank you Michael!

01:14:27
Having helped serve meals to homeless families many of whom were evicted I will testify to the trauma/life changing event.

01:14:34
Thank you!
