25:52
how many surveys we can do????

26:13
Just one time, please

26:42
We need about 63 more people to fill out the survey to hit our number: 291

27:05
(Also forgot to give this info earlier Happy APAHM! For those interested PBS has a free five-part docuseries called “Asian Americans”. It discusses not only the histories of various Asian American groups from their own personal stories and interviews but also the present and what the future of breaking ground looks like. )

Thanks for sharing Timea

housing justice is racial justice blog is available here, if you haven’t seen it: https://results.org/blog/housing-justice-is-racial-justice/

30:56
The R FL leg.- Lawmakers also chose to permanently halve the state’s share of affordable-housing money, using the rest on flooding projects and wastewater programs. Instead of $423 million for affordable housing this year, the program is getting $209 million. The fight goes on.

36:23
okaty thank you ken

39:31
If folks have questions for Zach, you can put it in the chat or send directly to me and I can queue it up!

42:23
Could someone catch me up on what universal vouchers entail?

42:30
Zach and Michael, I want 3 points to take away.

44:10
For Zach-what kind of points do you think are most powerful to make to a member of Congress who is opposed to the universal vouchers?

45:25
Is there a mechanism for verifying that those receiving these funds for children, are actually spending them on their children?

45:46
So, one thing that would help me be a more effective speaker on these issues would be knowing what is the estimate of how many children there ARE in the USA? I would like to know/say with accuracy that 2.6 million of the ______ million kids in the US are living in households with the Worst Case Housing needs….?!??

46:12
Movement for Family Power tracks the connection between poverty and the large numbers of BIPOC children in the child welfare system

47:29
Today, the number of children (under age 18) in the United States is at an all-time high of 74.2 million. - Google

48:14
So do Housing Choice Vouchers help families get into Income-Diverse neighborhoods (which have been shown promote better education outcomes for kids)?

48:18
Are there any kind of protections against landlords discriminating against people using housing vouchers?

49:28
Who would have thought that we would have a president that would be willing to take down the EPA, but we just had that. The pendulum almost always swings back, especially against progressive improvements. So it does need to be permanent.

51:34
Does CDF have data on Landlords willingness to accept vouchers and inspire reluctant to participate?

52:02
@Liz, maybe for a micro-example like Zach was saying, you could bring up how many children are removed from their homes because their families could provide for them. Then they are often subjected to systemic abuse because social workers have such high caseloads, and the government has to spend money to keep them in care as well

52:02
Awesome job!!!!!

52:31
Great work Zach

53:10
WOW! WOW! WOW!

53:14

56:10
It was very, very ambitious—we did amazing work in both Senate and House

56:42
We're doing great!

59:29
Some points you can pull from some of these slides on housing. Today’s presentation is really to help folks to think about stories they would like to share so they can better advocate on housing and tax credits. but some key points you can make: (1) expanding rental assistance benefits children and families; (2) addressing affordable housing now prevents homelessness and evictions; (3) Permanently funding rental assistance over the years would help guarantee affordability to those most vulnerable (right now its only subject to discretionary spending).

01:00:29

PAUL FARMER???

01:10:43
you beccha

01:11:15
You're so welcome Maxine!

01:12:44
Is the COVID horror in India worsened due to more of the population being exposed to TB? Great point when asking for TB funding if true.

01:14:32
Every moment has mattered! Way to go!

01:16:07
Go to "Current Volunteers," then "Lobbying" for more resources.

01:16:14
Check out Paul Farmer's latest book that one of our NJ advocates who is a Fellow--Ishaan Desai--worked on--Fevers, Feuds, and Diamonds: Ebola and the Ravages of History https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/how-the-legacy-of-colonialism-shaped-the-last-global-ebola-epidemic/2020/11/25/27f5b38a-22d1-11eb-a688-5298ad5d580a_story.html

01:17:17
I wonder if it would compound impact if, when an advocate gets an LTE published, we could get an action network member (or a few, separately) to reach out to the our local offices referencing the LTEs, saying they saw it and agree and urge the MOC to ...xyz.

01:17:19
Wow Ishaan! Thank You!

01:18:34
Here is the GPE packet I talked about. Would make good editorial packet for your editors: https://results.org/blog/the-u-s-must-raise-its-hand-for-global-education-with-a-bold-1-billion-pledge/

01:25:24
Thank you, Alex Palacios, for joining us at the Pacific Regional Conference. You were magnificent!!

01:29:38
If you have questions for Alex, you can put them in the chat.

01:36:22
remind us why GPE funding is more useful than education funding generally within our foreign assistance

01:37:22
and/or how has GPE made U.S. bilateral Basic Education more impactful?

01:38:18
@Stephen, our own foreign assistance is bilateral, GPE is multilateral so the funding goes to multiple countries instead of just one. It also brings together development banks, ministries of education, civil society groups, teachers' groups, etc. to align all actors in education to have a cohesive plan for systems level change

01:38:41
USAID can't align actors like that

01:39:47
Does the GPE place restrictions on client countries using donated funds on for-profit schools?

01:40:38
Is GPE still working which Rihanna? 😍🥰

01:40:49
GPE worked with Rihanna?

01:41:20
Can we please get some data or anecdotes about the investment-value of education broadly, impact to national economies, health outcomes, economic equities, and anti-oppression…? Can you offer speaking points to us for the way GPE is essential for the world to meet the SDGs and long-term planetary sustainability?

01:41:41
Alignment is the answer yessss

01:41:44
How about FLOTUS

01:41:47
Is there value in talking about GPE and GF as being a mew model for effective aid? Inviting in civil society, longer-term approach, local knowledge, etc.?

01:42:04
https://youtu.be/pukiVMPsbWU

01:42:39
That’s a video @Hwa

01:42:57
Yes @Lynne, @Roxanne!

01:42:59
I think a big selling point for GPE and GP is their attention to identifying fraud and holding recipients accountable.

01:43:25
Will some of the GPE resources be used to help schools get basic infrastructure so the schools can get basic needs met. Schools that have no electricity and no water, minimal sanitation etc. Isn’t that more fundamental than getting internet,

01:44:37
Will you please comment on children with disabilities, and efforts to make sure they are included in access to education?

01:45:21
I'll be showing it next, Alex ;)

01:46:16
SpaceX starlink playing a part?

01:48:50
