Could someone catch me up on what universal vouchers entail?

Zach and Michael, I want 3 points to take away.

For Zach-what kind of points do you think are most powerful to make to a member of Congress who is opposed to the universal vouchers?

Is there a mechanism for verifying that those receiving these funds for children, are actually spending them on their children?

So, one thing that would help me be a more effective speaker on these issues would be knowing what is the estimate of how many children there ARE in the USA? I would like to know/say with accuracy that 2.6 million of the ______ million kids in the US are living in households with the Worst Case Housing needs….?!??

So do Housing Choice Vouchers help families get into Income-Diverse neighborhoods (which have been shown promote better education outcomes for kids)?

Are there any kind of protections against landlords discriminating against people using housing vouchers?

Who would have thought that we would have a president that would be willing to take down the EPA, but we just had that. The pendulum almost always swings back, especially against progressive improvements. So it does need to be permanent.

Does CDF have data on Landlords willingness to accept vouchers and inspire reluctant to participate?

@Liz, maybe for a micro-example like Zach was saying, you could bring up how many children are removed from their homes because their families could provide for them. Then they are often subjected to systemic abuse because social workers have such high caseloads, and the government has to spend money to keep them in care as well

We're doing great!

Some points you can pull from some of these slides on housing. Today’s presentation is really to help folks to think about stories they would like to share so they can better advocate on housing and tax credits. but some key points you can make: (1) expanding rental assistance benefits children and families; (2) addressing affordable housing now prevents homelessness and evictions; (3) Permanently funding rental assistance over the years would help guarantee affordability to those most vulnerable (right now its only subject to discretionary spending).

remind us why GPE funding is more useful than education funding generally within our foreign assistance

and/or how has GPE made U.S. bilateral Basic Education more impactful?

@Stephen, our own foreign assistance is bilateral, GPE is multilateral so the funding goes to multiple countries instead of just one. It also brings together development banks, ministries of education, civil society groups, teachers' groups, etc. to align all actors in education to have a cohesive plan for systems level change

USAID can't align actors like that

Does the GPE place restrictions on client countries using donated funds on for-profit schools?

I think a big selling point for GPE and GP is their attention to identifying fraud and holding recipients accountable.

Will some of the GPE resources be used to help schools get basic infrastructure so the schools can get basic needs met. Schools that have no electricity and no water, minimal sanitation etc. Isn’t that more fundamental than getting internet,

Will you please comment on children with disabilities, and efforts to make sure they are included in access to education?
